Our elementary schools just spent two delightful days with illustrator Mike Wohnoutka.
The students enjoyed the books he has illustrated in preparation for his visit,
but getting to meet the artist and learn about the process involved in creating
the illustrations was beyond exciting! They were mesmerized when Mike drew
characters from his books. You could have heard a pin drop as over 100 students at
a time watched his drawings take shape. Mike easily varied his presentation to meet
the interest level of each group of students. Our staff couldn’t say enough good things
about Mike’s presentations. Mike Wohnoutka will certainly be on our list for a return visit!

Illustrator Mike Wohnoutka does a terrific presentation with students!
He captivates their attention at the very beginning and keeps their interest
through the entire presentation. Mike takes time to show them his studio,
answer questions, share his artwork from magazines such as Ladybug, as well
as children’s books such as Cowboy Sam and Those Confounded Secrets. He
teaches them tricks to draw and he really relates to the kids and lets them in
on the secrets of being an artist! While his presentation is especially interesting
for anyone who likes to draw, it is delightful for all who attend. He is a skillful
artist with a talent for communicating well with students. I highly recommend
Mike for a school visit! Students and teachers walk away smiling.

Our students were mesmerized by Mike Wohnoutka’s drawings and stories
about how he became an artist. He had a special way of communicating with
the students. His illustrations give a happy feeling with lots of humor tucked
in. His presentations were very appropriate and adapted for whatever grade
level he was speaking to, from Junior Kindergarten to sixth grade. His tips on
how to draw let the students know that it is OK to fix and improve their work
Editing makes the work better! Many students were inspired to draw after his
visit and they will be talking about Mike for a long time. We give his visit a ten!

Mike Wohnoutka does an excellent presentation for children about illustration.
Through a slide presentation, our K-5 students were in-touch with his life as an
illustrator and vocabulary connected with art. When students were asked what
they liked most... of course, "when Mike drew for us and gave secrets about his
pictures in the books he made." An enriching event for all. Two-thumbs up!!

Our students really connected with Mike and were very motivated to improve their
drawing skills after hearing him talk about his own experiences as an illustrator. He
taught the students to use perspective and point of view in their drawing, as well as
to listen carefully for details when they hear a story so that they can be illustrators
themselves. The teachers were motivated after Mike's visit to spend more time in class
using drawing as a way of increasing comprehension and attention. Mike captured the
interest of all with the drawings he did during his presentations as well as with his personal
stories. We highly recommend Mike and definitely plan to invite him back again!

Mike Wohnoutka visited with our K-5 students and they were absolutely
enthralled with his presentation. They enjoyed listening to him talk about
how he got started drawing when he was their age. Mike also showed them
how to use different techniques in their drawing.
